Parchments

Parchment of Assassin’s Way (AWA)

To cast the spell using this scroll write the order 'C 4011 <target ID>', where the target is an assassin in the same or an adjacent square. The effect of this spell is to shift the assassin slightly out of phase with the realms of life. The effect is so slight that its usefulness is limited. For the duration of the turn the assassin will gain a small bonus to normal defense and will be able to walk through locked doors like spectrally, without unlocking them. You cannot equip a parchment, you only need have it in your pack to cast it. Once you cast the spell it will disappear.

Making more: To create another parchment, use the “C 4012” order. This costs 50gp. The maximum number of parchments per backpack slot is 12.

Parchment of Cloak of Darkness (CDA)

To cast this spell, use the “C 37” order. When cast the Necromancer weaves the fabrics of shadow and night into a tangible Cloak of Darkness which can then be worn. This magical cloak, made of pure misdirection and gloom, makes the wearer extremely difficult to hit in combat. However, each turn there is a 20% chance the cloaks magic will run out and the cloak will disappear. When casting this spell the magic demands the presence of a single Black Opal, which is then used up. This spell was originally created by Tarek Bonemaster of the Necromancers Guild.

Parchment of Demortification (DMO)

To cast this spell, use the “X 331 <target ID>” order. Demortification is a powerful spell with a range of own square + 3. It has the effect of removing the dreaded “Mortified” condition from the target of the spell. Mortification is a terrible malady that affects people who have been struck by certain sorts of undead, causing them to slow down dramatically and their joints and muscles to stiffen as if affected by some kind of living rigor-mortis! You can not equip a parchment. You only need to have it in your backpack to cast it. Once you cast, the parchment will disappear. (Note: Second report states that the order to use is ‘C 331 <target ID>’.)

Parchment of Entropic Leeches (ENL)

To cast the spell using this scroll write the order 'C 38'. A strange enchantment discovered by a hermit necromancer only a few decades ago it opens up a minute gap into the land of the dead allowing only the tiniest of creatures from there to squeeze through; Entropic Leeches. These weird little worms swarm around the area where the rift was opened and feed. This is not as bad as it sounds, however, because they eat death... or pure entropy to be specific. Consequently, any living creature in the caster's square or any adjacent square is healed for between 1 and 3 points of damage before the Leeches are drawn back from whence they came. You cannot equip a parchment, you only need have it in your pack to cast it. Once you cast the spell it will disappear.

To cast the spell using this scroll write the order 'C 4006 1'. Once cast the magic creates a semi-mucous membrane around the necromancer formed of the malleable substance which seperates the lands of the living and the lands of the dead. Useless against physical attacks the membrane has the unusual ability to protect he wearer against some effects of direct magical attacks. All such blows have their damage reduced by 1 point. The membrane has a 25% chance of collapsing to sludge at the end of each turn. You cannot equip a parchment, you only need have it in your pack to cast it. Once you cast the spell it will disappear.

From there, the Necromancer has various options. They can teleport back to the place from which they came, or teleport to various other ‘Prime’ locations in the Kingdom of Bereny. C 4 0 (cast in Daemonrift)

I rasped out the words from my Fade to Grey spell. I felt my flesh chilling to an icy cold as my body prepared itself to survive the changes so close to the Realm of the Dead. The colors that surrounded me seemed to fade away, bleaching from the area as if I was dissolving into a world of purely black and whites. Then the very walls before me seemed to evaporate, leaving me standing somewhere else entirely... a world of grayness and gloom. The Dead Zone. My prayers were well received, although the Holy Light granted me no Shadow-Creature this time. (GMs note: The chance of success is about 25%.)

C 4 0 (Cast in Bereny)

I rasped out the words from my Fade to grey spell. I felt my flesh chilling to an icy cold as my body prepared itself to survive the changes so close to the Realm of the Dead. The colours that surrounded me seemed to fade away, bleaching from the area as if I were dissolving into a world of purely black and whites. Then even the very walls before me seemed to evaporate, leaving me standing somewhere else entirely... a world of greyness and gloom. The Dead Zone.

X 333 0

Summoning my force of will I open a gap in the fabric of the Dead Zone and took a step back into the real world, thanking the powers I have been granted that such a return journey is possible.

Parchment of Lay to Rest  (LTR)

The order to cast this spell is  "C 40".  This is a fairly recent spell invented by a member of the Guild of Necromancers. When cast at an undead creature, it saps the energy which animates them, doing significant damage.

Make More: To make another parchment use the order ‘C 140’.  This costs 50gps. The maximum number of parchments per backpack slot is 12.

Value: 54gp

Parchment of Life Transfer  (LIF)

The order to cast this spell is  "X 641 <target character ID>".  The target must be in an adjacent square to the caster.  I carefully examined the Magic Parchment I was carrying.  It was a Parchment of Life Transfer.  The caster of this spell can bend the nature of entropy itself, giving his or her own life force to the recipient of the spell.  It is very painful and can kill the caster if the loss of the health would reduce them to death. This spell transfers ten health points to the person at whom the spell is cast, while leaching the same amount of life from the caster. You cannot equip a parchment. You only need have it in your pack to cast it.  Once you cast the spell it will disappear.

Make More: To make another parchment use the order ‘C 106’.  This costs 50gps. The maximum number of parchments per backpack slot is 12.

Value: 56gp

Parchment of Maggots  (MAG)

The order to cast this spell is  "C 44”.  When cast this spell causes the summoner to be entirely covered in crawling maggots. As disgusting as this sounds to most, many Necromancers rather enjoy it. Coupled with the fact that the maggots absorb damage dealt while they are upon the caster, this is a useful spell. Each turn after it is cast the spell has a 50% chance of wearing off. (Player Notes: This spell grants the following defensive bonuses: Normal=10, Fire=5, Cold=5, Chemical=5, Magical=5, Mental=0.)

Parchment of Mask of Crimson Death  (MCD)

I carefully examined the Magic Parchment I was carrying. It was a Parchment of Mask of Crimson Death. To cast the spell using this scroll write the order "C 30 0”. This ancient and powerful spell brings a terrible curse upon the caster known as the Crimson Death. While thus affected, the caster gains superhuman physical strength and immense bodily resistance. However, at the end of every turn, including the one on which it is cast, there is a 25%(!) chance that the malady will eat the caster's heart, killing them. To rid themselves of the dark malady, the caster must absorb the energy of a black opal, by using the order 'X 1663 0' when they have a black opal in their backpack. This destroys the opal.

Make More: To make another parchment use the order ‘C 130’.  This costs 250gps. The maximum number of parchments per backpack slot is 12.

Parchment of Skeletal Force  (SKF)

The order to cast this spell is 'C 11 0'. I carefully examined the Magic Parchment I was carrying. It was a Parchment of Skeletal Force. The caster of this spell can summon a force of skeletons to fight on their behalf. The caster does not control the Skeletons, operating independently and with the limited intelligence of a lesser undead. They will only attack monsters, although they will defend themselves if an adventurer should choose to attack them. 2-7 skeletons are summoned per casting. The Skeletons will usually stay in the area they were cast and attack any monsters that come within their vision area. They have some independent thought and can sometimes take to wandering further a field. You cannot equip a parchment. You only need have it in your pack to cast it. Once you cast the spell it will disappear.

Making More: To make another parchment use the order 'C 111 0'. This costs 100 gps. The maximum number of parchments per backpack slot is 12.

Value: 109gp

C 11 0

I pulled forth my scroll and read out the macabre phrasings and jarriing syllables that made up the verbals of the spell. I felt the scroll crumble in my hands as the ground around me began to cough and choke out the dead from deep below my feet. A Skeleton crawled out of the earth beneath my feet. It stood slowly and stared around, hoping for something evil to fight. A Skeleton emerged from the earth, clawing its way to the surface and standing ready for action. The earth closed up once more. It seems my spell has run its course and all the skeletons that comprise my force have risen to protect the area on my behalf. Player’s Note: This resulted in two Summoned Skeletons in the same square as the necromancer that used the parchment. They have no names like undead created with the Undead Summoning parchments. As the parchment indicates, no sub-character statistics showed up on the player’s turn and thus they are uncontrolable. Presumably, they will go after the nearest monster until one or the other is destroyed.

Parchment of Touch of Death (TOD)

To cast this spell, use the “X 332 <target ID>” order. Touch of Death allows the necromancer to call upon the power of pure Entropy. By touching the target, the Necromancer opens a channel to the realm of the dead and drains the victim’s life into it…thereby causing horrific wounds through cold damage. Touch of Death works on Undead too, by stealing the energy that gives them life. The range of the spell is 2 squares. You do not need to de-equip your attack weapons for this spell. You cannot equip a parchment. You only need to have it in your backpack to cast it. Once you cast the spell, the parchment will disappear. (Note: Second report states that the order to use is ‘C 332 <target ID>’.)

Parchment of Undead Summoning (SU1)

To Cast this spell, use the “C 1” order. When cast a weak undead creature is summoned. This monster acts as an independent character that YOU control. You will get to issue orders for it (6 actions per turn). Magically summoned creatures are weak and can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few turns. If you are unlucky, they could fade out right away. This spell requires no additional components. A summoned creature has a very small visible area so it must stay close to its summoner or it will be virtually blind. You cannot equip a parchment. You only need to have it in your backpack to cast it. Once you cast the spell, the parchment will disappear.

Parchment of Withering (WIT)

The order for using the spell is 'X' '640' 'Target Character ID'. The target must be within two squares of the caster. I carefully examined the Magic Parchment I was carrying. It was a Parchment of Withering. By using this unpleasant spell the caster literally draws positive energy out of their target. The physical effect of this being that the victim ages several decades in a few minutes, their form withering and rotting right on their body. The victim gains the status ‘withered’ that is a permanent effect unless magically cured. You cannot equip a parchment. You only need have it in your pack to cast it.
