Food & Rest
Eating
From
the Dungeonworld Rules: You will notice that every character in Dungeon has
a 'last ate' statistic which shows how many turns it has been since they last
had a full meal. This is not something you need to worry about until after it
passes five turns. At this point your character will begin to suffer invisible
minuses in combat and in other game actions due to hunger pains, these negative
modifiers becoming increasingly worse each further turn no meal is eaten. The
matter becomes particularly serious after ten turns, when your character will
begin to starve, taking actual damage which gets progressively worse each turn
thereafter until they either eat ... or starve to death!
In order to eat a meal you must have a portion of rations.
Then all you need to do is issue one simple order and the rations will be
eaten. That order is, ‘Y 7 0’. Eating a single portion of rations resets the
'last ate' counter to zero.
Player’s
Notes: No
statistical changes are observed from being hungry. Any detriments to hunger
after last ate reaches 5 or 6 are indeed invisible minuses. The following
warning messages and effects occur when a character transitions from one last
ate level to the next.
From
8 to 9: I
felt the beginnings of stomach cramp. It'd been too long since I'd eaten. I
couldn't leave it much longer or I'd really start to get sick. Player’s Note:
No observed statistical changes.
From
9 to 10: I
abruptly collapsed, my stomach heaving and churning. My vision swam and my
strength seemed to desert me. I was starving. I just had to find something to
eat ... (1 health point lost.) Player’s Note: No observed statistical changes
other than 1 point of damage lost.
From
the Dungeonworld Rules: In the same way that there is a 'last ate' counter on your
character there is also a 'last slept' counter. Going without some decent sleep
over long periods is dangerous for anybody and so the system works in a
similiar fashion to that of food. Three to nine turns without sleep result in
invisible negative modifiers in combat and other game actions... after the
tenth turn you will begin to take damage which gets progressively worse each
turn thereafter. It is entirely possible to die of sleeplessness.
Adventurers
are a hardy bunch. They are used to grabbing their rest almost anywhere and so
no special location is needed for sleeping. You only need to issue a simple
order, ‘Y 8 0’.
Player’s
Notes: No
statistical changes are observed from being tired. Any detriments to sleep
exhaustion after last slept reaches 3 or more are indeed invisible minuses. The
following warning messages and effects occur when a character transitions from
one last slept level to the next.
From
8 to 9: The
world seemed strange to me. Things that were normally sharp and focused seemed
to drift in and out of reality. I knew what the problem was. It had been way
too long since I'd had a decent rest. I had to find time to sleep. Player’s
Note: No observed statistical changes.
From 9 to 10: I'd been driving myself for too long without sleep. I could feel my hands trembling as hot sweat poured down my brow. Rest. I needed rest. (1 health point lost.) Player’s Note: No observed statistical changes other than 1 point of damage lost.
