EQUIPPABLE TO LEFT ARM

Acid Etched Bracers (?)

This is a copper bracer of thick metal and made to be worn on the wrist. It has been etched by acid such that it is covered in weird, fluted patterns that seem to shift as they are looked at. Acid demons wear these and, in the hands of a mortal, they protect against all sorts of chemical attacks. Player’s Note: May provide +3 to normal defense as well.

Bracer of Fire Freedom (?)

The Bracer of Fire Freedom gives the wearer an increase in the protection against fire. However there is a side effect, a temporary lowering of will while it is on.

The power of the mind is used to fuel the magical processes of the bracer, but this has more than once meant that the wearer was not ready for what was ahead. Player’s Note: Also grants +1 to base attack skill and normal defense.

Bracer of Freedom (?)

The Bracer of Freedom is a sturdy leather vambrace that equips to the defense arm in place of a shield. It is as durable as a wooden shield, serving much the same function in many ways, but with the bonus of giving a better balance and co-ordination than a weighty shield. This magical bracer also has a low-level enchantment granting +1 to attack scores.

Dwarven Shield of Glory (?)

A Wooden Shield, also known as a buckler, is a small round shield that straps to the arm to be used as a defensive object, while the other hand, ideally, wields some sort of weapon. With training the shield can give distinct advantages in combat, allowing a different range of maneuvers to the experienced fighter. Magic shields are the same as normal shields but have been enchanted to give a sorcerous bonus to certain defense types, or other powers to be discovered through use.

A flaresse shield is a buckler made by the famous shield-maker Susan Flaresse. It is a small round shield that straps to the arm to be used as a defensive object, while the other hand, ideally, wields some sort of weapon. It has the mark of Flaresse upon its face, a white horses head. Player’s Note: Flaresse Shields come in crates that traders can purchase at the Silver Star Trade Post or estates can get from wholesale trader. They come in crates of 5 shields that must be opened up by a trader.

Hardoak Shield (?)

Elves of the Great Forest are renowned for the production of many things from the hardoak found only in those huge woodlands. Hardoak is more durable, more weatherproof and longer lasting than any other kind of wood and the skilled hands of the Elves can turn it into wondrous things. A hardoak shield is more effective than a normal wooden shield, lasts longer and generally looks better.

Hide Shield (?)

I had a good look at the Hide Shield and noted the following. This defensive item consists of thick animal hides stretched over a wooden frame. One of the earliest types of shield, it suffers a little these days as it was not designed to be used against large, heavy weapons. The lack of metal parts upon it, and the treatment the hides receive, does make it resilient to fire and cold.

Iron Shield (?)

Heavy iron weapons and armor were mostly used before the Time of Thunder. They take a strong person to use as strong as modern steel and what it lacked in strength was made up for in extra weight. That having been said, any Iron equipment that old and have lasted to the present day would have to be enchanter in some way and so this equipment is often well worth using. Iron shields offer good protection against magical and mental attacks for those strong enough to wear them. They require at least a strength of 16 to wield them.

Kite Shield (?)

Looking at the Kite Shield I saw that it is a simple wooden shield with increased height. Shaped like an inverted teardrop this shield offers a little more protection due to its size. It is a little bulky and so it is difficult to move quickly into the path of arrows and other missile weapons. If faced by an enemy armed in this way the best option is just to hide behind it and slowly move towards your enemy!

Reinforced Shield (390)

I examined my reinforced shield and found it an improvement on the standard shield. Where the wooden shield has its front bare and open to damage, these shields have a thin layer of metal placed over them. They offers more resistance to attacks from fire and normal blows than their wooden counterpart and often bear some sort of heraldic design or motif. Due to their weight those characters whose strength is 12 or greater can only use them. Where a character type has any armor restriction already the reinforced shield is included and similarly restricted. This includes Rogues, Magic-Users, Monks, Assassins, etc. Confirmed reports show that these items can be purchased from traders using the ‘B 390’ order. Player’s Notes: Reinforced shields provide pretty good protection, and have no overall weaknesses. Their Defense bonuses are closer to a + 5 Shield than a normal shield, but cost a whole lot less. It has successfully been equipped by monks, necromancers, enchanters, and rogues.

Rimmed Shield (?)

I took a good look at the Rimmed Shield. It is a wooden shield but with the addition of a steel rim around the edge. This protects the shield against blows that may otherwise hack lumps off it and reduces the shield's tendency to burn. The last thing you want when someone hits your shield is a splinter flying into you eyes!

Simple Ossuary Shield (?)

I looked at the hearldric shield, this bears the heraldry of one of the seven orders, only the orders may place their heraldry on shields and only members of those orders may bear them. The heraldric symbolism of these objects carries power, anyone may carry the simple heraldry but knights can enhance these devices such that they become more potent, heraldry and how knights can enchance and other relevant matters are discussed in Derwent Module Rules.

Spell Breaker (?)

It looks to be a chain fashioned from heavy silver metal links. In skilled hands the short chain can be whipped around the wrist as a magical or mental attack targets the user and the effect will literally be ‘knocked’ from the air by the anti-magical properties of the metal. Use of this item is very specialized and the only Bereny folk who are routinely taught to sue these items are assassins. Usually they are recovered from dead Hyusarik, a clan of demon worshipping assassins. Bereny assassins are trained to use the chains, though nobody in Bereny seems to know how to make them. Traders will not deal in this item at all, by reason of Royal Decree.

I examined the star forged shield. Made by the dwarves long ago, this metal is stronger than steel and lighter than wood. It repels magic, giving good defense against it, as well as to more mundane attacks. It is a unique item that may not be bought or sold. (See 'Treasures of Bereny' Page 49)

Tisbehelne Shield (?)

These large steel shields are granted to a Tisbehelne Crusader upon her acceptance to the service of the Goddess of Debauchery and Lust. They carry an unholy enchantment granted by a High Priestess which gives the wearer increased Defenses. Many of these shields are decorated with images of cavorting lascivious scenes of wanton carnality. These shields cannot be equipped by any other than a Crusader of Tisbehelne. If the Crusader dies the High Priestess enchantment will cause the shield to disintegrate.
