EQUIPPABLE TO HEAD

Anubian Deathmask (?)

These ceremonial Anubian headdresses are placed only on the bodies of their dead, and usually those who have been mummified. They are black and silver, come over the face with only narrow holes for the eyes and hang down the back of the neck. They are made of linen woven through with fine silver thread. These headdresses are certainly enchanted and provide the wearer with protection against magical and mental assaults as well as making them somewhat resistant to fire.

Anubian Headdress (?)

Anubian are a strange and mysterious race of humanoids with the heads of Jackals. They are known to favor exotic forms of apparel, not least of which is the Anubian Headdress with which they adorn themselves. Nothing is known about its purpose, but the headdress is clearly an important Anubian ceremonial garb. It is fashioned from a shiny but lightweight metal that is dyed into a striped pattern and rests on the shoulders, rising to the back of the head.

Chain Coif (?)

I took a good look at the Chain mail coif. It is a close fitting hood made of chain mail, worn on the head as an alternative to a helmet.  The coif gives the wearer better hearing, something often reduced by a large helmet, and tends to be used more by troops on a battlefield where order need to be heard. It is also lighter than a helmet, but a little draftier.

Dark Dwarf Crown (?)

This is the Crown of the Dark Dwarf King Thodin. It is not a flashy crown, but a functional one as befitting the Dwarves. As this is a Dwarven Crown only a dwarf

may wear it, but not all dwarves are worthy. (Player’s Note: The following line is suspected to come from equipping the crown. It looks like the same line received when equipping a Shiny Crown.) I placed the Shiny Crown on my head. People immediately turned to look at me and point me out to their friends. The flakes of gold foil in my hair looked a bit odd, but otherwise I made the perfect noble.

I examined the dwarven helm. Forged of rare ores in deep forges long lost to the dwarves these tight fitting helms are very strong and offer excellent protection, even repelling magic. Enchanter’s Hat (?)

I examined the hat and discovered that it was the traditional hat worn by enchanters. It is a rich azure in color, and is decorated with golden stars and silver moons. It is a little too weird for anyone to wear apart from an enchanter, it offers little or no protection, and would look silly on anyone but a wielder of magic. It tingles a little to the touch, probably some lingering magical aura; I wonder what happens when you put it on? Player’s Notes: A second report indicates only a +5 bonus to magical defense.

I took the pointed hat, with its stars and moons, and placed it on top of my head. It fits snugly... a little too snugly in fact. I tried to take it off, but found out to my dismay that it would not budge. No wonder so many enchanters wear these things, they are too ashamed to admit they've been tricked into wearing one. Now that I have calmed down a little, I believe that I am a little smarter than I was before, and a slight aura surrounds my body making me more resilient to hostile magic. Perhaps this is not a bad thing after all. It gives +10 magical defense and +1 intelligence.

Feathered Cap (?)

I examined my feathered cap. A simple piece of headgear, the cap is not intended to be used as a serious piece of armor. Full helms are heavy metal helmets, fully enclosing the head except for small eye slits with a fluted base that adds protection to the neck. Full-Face Helmet (395)

I examined the full-faced helmet. This helmet is the same as a metal helmet, but it has the addition of a plate of metal over the face. This provides a much greater level of protection but unfortunately reduces vision. (-1 to Vision) Where a character type has any armor restriction already the full-faced helmet is included and similarly restricted. This includes Rogues, Magic-Users, Monks, Assassins, etc. Confirmed reports show that these helmets can now be purchased at traders with the order ‘B 395’. Notes: Full-face Helmets are almost as good as +5 Helmets, but give you a -1 Vision penalty and can only be worn by fighter types. They're an excellent way to provide cheap protection for the warriors provided you have a good Rogue nearby to act as look-out... Player’s Notes: Recent report normal defense is 4 not 5. Green Kukul (?)

A green kukul is hatched out of a speckled egg. It is a small reptile that lives in deep dark places. These creatures are quite rare in Bereny. What makes the kukul remarkable is that they seem to enjoy the company of enchanters. For some reason, when found by an enchanter, the kukul will sit (and balance in a rather extraordinary fashion) upon their head. Obviously, this looks rather ridiculous, but even so, enchanters do tend to put up with the ridicule for the benefits of a kukul. You see, the Kukul radiates a magical aura, which includes the person upon which it is a passenger. This aura grants a +10 defense against 'magical' attacks. Only an enchanter can equip a kukul. These creatures are not forever. Kukuls do age... going through 'old' and 'very old' stages before they pass away.

Iron Helmet (?)

I examined the Iron Helm. Heavy iron weapons and armor were mostly used before the time of Thunder. They take a strong person to use as the iron is not as strong as modern steel and what it lacked in strength was made up for in extra weight. That having been said, any iron equipment that old to have lasted to the present day would have to be enchanted in some way and so this equipment is often well worth using. Iron helms offer good protection against magical and mental attacks for those strong enough to wear them. At least 14 strength is needed to hold your head up while wearing it and it reduces vision by one.

Player’s Note: These helmets have been discovered as treasure and haven’t been found for sale anywhere yet. Their normal defense seems right in line between a metal helmet and a metal helmet +5 as is available in any courtyard or magical trader, but its other defenses are superior to a Metal Helmet +5 and just slightly so to a Metal Helmet +7. The first part says 'Lady Nashan hear this plea and grant unlife to the bones of the fallen such that they might rise up against those who would trespass against us.' The rest of the cloth contains odd symbols that I do not recognise. The linen strip could be worn as a bandanna of sorts around the forehead and thus can be equipped to the head. This is one of those pieces of costume jewelry. It is made of tin painted gold and has pieces of cut, colored glass set into it. From a distance it looks like a fine crown, close up, it looks cheap. Nobody knows the origin of the frightening magical artifacts known as skullface masks. These macabre creations are made from the skull of a human or humanoid and enchanted with strange magical powers. The wearer of a skullface mask is so frightening to look upon that in combat they gain a +10 bonus to defense against ‘normal’ attacks because of the aura of fear they create. This bonus does not work upon creatures that are immune to ‘mental’ damage (such as undead). The mask also gives its wielder a +1 bonus to their intelligence as it adds it is own malevolent intellect to its master. However, the mask reduces a wearer’s Appearance score by 3 points.
